...and this is a photo of the new cedar siding samples from a different manufacturer.  Much better!

    I'm so sorry! I'm clearly a barely competent blogger. I didn't realize I had the very few comments I had until I upgraded the Blogger platform. We switched to a different cedar provider (didn't like the quality in that particular photo), so if you're still looking I'd be happy to find out the names of both.
